WHAT IS BARCELONA SCICOMM SOCIAL?

Barcelona SciComm Social is a non-profit community arranging relaxed, social meetups for people all of backgrounds with an interest in science communication, engagement and entrepreneurship in Barcelona.

Barcelona SciComm Social is intended to bring together people with shared professional interests, and create regular events throughout the year for members of the science engagement community to meet like-minded people, share ideas, take part in informal training and expertise sharing, and to learn more about the international science communication community in the city in an informal environment.

In future, we would also like to arrange & share English-language training/discussion events, and to create a welcoming space for interested communicators who are new to the city to join our community, meet people working here, and to get involved in local activities.

SciComm Social is a concept originally from the UK, and started in Barcelona by Rachel Cruickshank (LinkedIn) - who is very lucky to have lots of amazing people contacting her through her work with Barcelona Fun Science, and would like to connect everyone together!

WHO IS IT FOR?

The Barcelona SciComm Social community is free to access, and is intended for anyone with a professional or volunteer interest in writing, organising, coordinating or facilitating any form of science-themed event, discussion, project, start-up or publication.

The purpose of the group is to meet and share ideas and experience, so we welcome people from all different professional backgrounds with an interest in engaging individuals or groups with scientific concepts.

All experience levels and types/sizes of projects are very welcome.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Barcelona SciComm social is a free Facebook community - it's very easy to join, you just need to submit your request to join, then share a short post on the group wall to introduce yourself.

HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?

Right now, the group is just getting started, and I (Rachel) would love some help to build and grow the community and start organising great events in 2018.

If you have any ideas how you would like to help, or what you would like to see from this new community, please do send me an email - I would love to hear from you.
 

You can also support our new peer-sharing community in lots of different ways:

1. Share the group with your colleagues and friends who may be interested to join us

2. Get in touch - let us know your ideas, training you would like to see, event or job opportunities to share with the Barcelona SciComm Social community members, or cool events or projects that you think your colleagues would enjoy

3. Teach us! We will be looking for community members to facilitate informal training and discussion sessions, and to share 'What I learnt' case studies (5 minutes) - would you like to share your expertise?
